On the day that the 8th International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated, we recall the 1st Meet UP Women In Space, which took place on 25 November. The event promoted by Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) , ESA BIC Portugal and ESA Space Solutions Portugal provided a meeting point for women working in the areas of Innovation, Space and Technology.
The 1st Meet UP Women In Space brought together a panel of guests who shared stories of success and persistence, stimulating debate with the audience about the role of women in technological and leadership activities in Portugal, an area where they are still largely under-represented, particularly in the space economy.
Among the guests were, Ana Gabryele Moreira, student at the University of São Paulo, Celeste Pereira, COO of Fibersail, Joana Mendonça, President of ANI — Agência Nacional de Inovação, Teresa Mendes, Former President of the Board of Instituto Pedro Nunes, and Maria Rute Ferreira André, Assistant Researcher at the Research Centre in Centro de Investigação em Cerâmica e Compósitos (CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials).
The meeting provided a moment of debate and networking among women from the entrepreneurship and technology ecosystem of the Coimbra region, as part of the activities of the project SAAC SPACE SOLUTIONS – Empreendedorismo & Economia do Espaço na Região Centro, co-funded by CENTRO2020, PT2020 through the European Social Fund.
